Debt collection

ALR unit funds
Active-duty units and mobilized Guard and Reserve units deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom or troops deployed Haiti and in support of homeland security while serving in remote areas, are authorized unit funds through the Army Level Requirements Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation unit fund program. Units will receive $2 per Soldier per month beginning the month of deployment. Call the Fort Bliss Family and MWR Financial Management Office at 568-4444 to receive an ALR information package.

Conservation town hall
Col. Joseph A. Simonelli, Fort Bliss garrison commander, is hosting a Facebook town hall meeting March 6 from 6 to 7 p.m. on energy, water efficiency and recycling. Experts from the Directorate of Public Works will be on hand to answer questions about recycling, energy conservation and water efficiency, and experts from Balfour Beatty Communities will be on hand to answer questions about mock billing. Recycle Center update?
The Fort Bliss Recycle Center experienced flooding Feb. 6 when a water main burst. They are continuing operations at the recycling drop off point out front of the building, but the offices have temporarily moved to Bldg. 622.

Climbing adventure
Conquer the rock! Join Southwest Adventure for an all-day climbing trip Feb. 25 to one of the Southwest?s most popular crags. The Rough and Readies began in 2000 as a project started by students at nearby New Mexico State University, and has since blossomed into a spot with more than 20 established routes. Routes range in difficulty and go from 30 feet to 90 feet high. There will be challenges fit for participants of any age or ability level. Tickets cost $15 and include transportation, required equipment and guide services. Advance purchase is required. Therapeutic yoga
Clear stress from your body and mind during a special therapeutic yoga session offered by Team Bliss Sports and Fitness. The class costs $15 per person and will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Feb. 29 at Mitchell W. Stout Physical Fitness Center. There are 20 seats available. Instructor Megan Sullivan DeRosa will teach participants to support deep healing and improved well-being while giving their bodies the gift of a mini retreat. Civilian Fitness Program?
The Civilian Fitness Program is an opportunity for Army civilians to develop and continue healthy lifestyle changes. The six-month, structured program is open only to civilian employees of Fort Bliss. The six-month program begins March 26 and involves pre- and post-program fitness assessments and one-hour workouts three times a week. Guidance will be provided on exercise program design, nutrition, and aerobics, but the actual program will be determined by the participants. Group fitness classes offered include TRX, gravity, yoga, pilates, spin and more, all on a rotating schedule. Are you handy with a video camera? Dying to try out that new digital recorder you picked up last year? Then do we have the contest for you: It?s the first-ever Fort Bliss Family and MWR video contest! We?re looking for your videos to tell us what Family and MWR means to you. The winner of the Family and MWR video contest will receive a 42-inch high-definition television, courtesy of Freedom Furniture. The contest is open to active-duty, Reserve and National Guard servicemembers from any branch of service, stationed at Fort Bliss, and their family members age 18 and older, with valid military ID. Contestants must be in amateur status and cannot be professionally employed as a videographer (i.e., with the Public Affairs Office, etc.). Black History Month showcase
Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation presents its first Black History Month showcase at 7 p.m. Friday at the Centennial Banquet and Conference Center, Bldg. 11199 on Sgt. E. Financial Makeover Challenge
Do you worry about how you are going to pay your rent, car note, groceries and the rest of the bills that keep showing up in your mailbox? Are you ready to stop stressing over money? The Financial Readiness Program invites you to participate in the 2012 Financial Makeover Challenge. The challenge is a six-month program that teaches Soldiers and families to budget and manage their money in a way that sheds bad financial habits and develops habits that take control of their finances. FRP?s coaches will help the participants overhaul how they manage their finances with regular coaching sessions and classes through the six-month period. Participants will learn how to reduce debt, prepare a budget, and start a savings plan that will empower them to make decisions about their lifestyle in order to attain a successful financial makeover. Eight families will be selected for the FRP?s Financial Makeover Challenge. Completed applications must be turned in to ACS, Bldg 2494 on Ricker Road, by Feb. 24. Military family resilience
Learn to bounce back from whatever life throws your way with the Active Military Families Resilience Training offered by Army Community Service. The first training is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 10. Framing classes
Learn from certified instructors how to professionally frame your artwork, diplomas or certificates. Framing Bliss offers framing classes every other Saturday from 8:45 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The next class is scheduled for Saturday. Classes are open to DoD ID card holders and their guests and cost $30 per person, or $25 each for two people. Class fees cover all required materials and instruction. Spouse employment orientation
Are you a military spouse looking for employment? Attend the employment orientation at Army Community Service. The orientation takes approximately 1.5 hours and a lot of good information will be provided about free services available to you. We provide resume (civilian and federal) assistance and help you get ready for interviews. We have certified federal job search trainers eager to assist you. Orientations are held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. every Monday and Wednesday at ACS, located in Bldg. 2494 on Ricker Road at West Fort Bliss. Advance registration is required. The Financial Readiness Program at Army Community Service invites you to the Military Saves Conference from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Feb. 24 at the Family Resilience Center, Bldg. 250 on Club Road. Military Saves is a national financial readiness campaign with the goal of increasing household savings for short- and long-term needs and decreasing consumer debt. Cultural awareness program
C.A.F.E. (Cultural Awareness for Everyone) is a program designed to encourage community awareness for all Fort Bliss teens. C.A.F.E. provides teens the opportunity to learn about the culture on and off post. Make new friends, explore the sights, taste the food and enjoy the sounds of El Paso. These Saturday tours run from 8:45 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and are open to sixth through 12th graders. The next scheduled tour dates include Feb. 25 and March 31. Youth Sports tennis
Registration for Team Bliss Youth Sports spring tennis is under way and open through Feb. 29. Youth Sports tennis is open to boys and girls ages 8 to 18. Registration costs $50 for the first child and $42 for each additional child. The season is anticipated to run from March through April. This is a non-competitive league and the 50 percent participation rule is in effect. Parents must attend a sportsmanship class before a child is eligible to participate in the Youth Services league. Home-school PE group
Beginning Tuesday, Youth Sports will host a home-school physical education group at the YouthPlex, Bldg. 195 on Chaffee Road. The group will meet from 9 to 9:50 a.m. each Tuesday and Thursday for elementary-aged children or from 10:20 to 11:10 a.m. for middle- and high-school-aged children. The group?s mission is to provide a quality physical education opportunity for home-schooled students that offers a unique variety of physical experiences. Saturday child care
Saturday care for CYSS-registered children is shared between Logan and Milam facilities. Logan Child Development Center and Milam Child Development Center share care for CDC-age children, while the Logan School-Age Center and Milam School-Age Center alternate weekends for school-age children. The Milam centers are open even-dated Saturdays and the Logan facilities are open odd-dated Saturdays. No programs are open on training holiday weekends. Range safety
The Fort Bliss Rod and Gun Club offers a range safety course for children ages 6 to 17. The class is held at 1 p.m. every second and fourth Saturday on a monthly basis. SKIES judo classes
Your children can learn elf-confidence, concentration and leadership skills, as well as physical coordination, power and flexibility ? all while having fun ? when they take judo classes with SKIES Unlimited. Judo is a Japanese martial art in which opponents use balance and body weight, with minimal physical effort, to throw each other or hold each other in a lock. Judo is best known for its spectacular throwing techniques but also involves considerable grappling on the ground utilizing specialized pins, control holds and arm locks. Taekwondo classes
Do your kids get a kick out of their after-school activities? They can when they learn taekwondo with SKIES?Unlimited! Taekwondo is a Korean martial art that emphasizes kicks thrown from a mobile stance, employing the leg?s greater reach and power. It combines combat techniques, self-defense, sport and exercise. Taekwondo training generally includes a system of blocks, kicks, punches and open-handed strikes and may also include various take-downs or sweeps, throws and joint locks. Extended care available
Extended child care is available to single Soldiers and dual military families who have a mission-related task through the Child, Youth and School Services Family Child Care program. FCC will verify the duty requirement. Examples of extended care events include but are not limited to CQ, staff duty, field problems, a special event on a weekend (i.e. Veteran?s Day Parade) or care on a federal holiday. No payment is rendered by the Soldier. An Army subsidy pays the provider directly for the extended care hours. Note: This program is not for families who have a non-military spouse. Youth track and field
The Team Bliss Youth Sports track and field team is now recruiting members for the 2012 season. Track and field is open to boys and girls ages 5 to 18. Registration costs $40 for the first child and $34 for each additional child. Practices will be held at Stout Track from 6 to 7:15 p.m. each Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. PALA challenge
Team Bliss Youth Sports invites children to join the Presidential Active Lifestyle Award challenge now. In six weeks participants will be more active, make better food choices and feel great. Parent Central training closure

After-school pickup
The CYSS Middle School and Teen Program now offers after-school pickup service at even more middle and high schools in the El Paso area. The service is free and open to all CYSS-registered youths in sixth through 12th grades. MST offers after-school pickup service at the following locations: Nolan Richardson Middle School, HE Charles Middle School, Terrace Hills Middle School, Canyon Hills Middle School, McArthur Middle School, Ross Middle School, Parkland Middle School, Harmony Science Academy, Andress High School, Parkland High School, Chapin High School, Austin High School and Burgess High School. AER kick-off
The annual Army Emergency Relief campaign is scheduled to kick off at 9 a.m. Feb. 29 at the Centennial Banquet and Conference Center at East Fort Bliss. AER is a private nonprofit organization incorporated in 1942 by the Army. AER?s sole mission is to help Soldiers and their family members. AER Fort Bliss provides financial assistance to active-duty Soldiers, retirees and their family members during times of valid emergency needs. It provides interest-free loans or grants to those who qualify for financial assistance.? AER is funded solely through voluntary contributions from Soldiers, retirees, unsolicited corporate contributions, repayments of loans made through the program and income from investments.

Recycling Center Bldg. closure
The Fort Bliss Recycling Center building only is closed temporarily due to recent water damage.? The Recycling Program is still on-going and staff has been temporarily moved to Bldg. 622 S. Taylor Road. Lilia Lenhart, DPW-ED program manager said recycling will continue on a regular basis. ?Nothing has changed ? training will still be conducted and audits of the recycling containers will be performed as scheduled,? said Lenhart. The Recycling Drop-Off Point located in front of Bldg. 1334, is still open to recycle paper, cardboard (flattened), shredded paper (tied in clear plastic bags), aluminum, tin and steel cans in the blue recycling dumpsters. Call ahead to arrange drop-off of wood pallets, at 568-1537. Personal scrap metal, personal electronics and ink and toner cartridges will continue to be recycled at the building. Youth basketball tryouts

St. Patty?s Day 6-Mile Race
Lace up your running shoes and be sure to wear green when you take part in the St. Patty?s Day 6-Mile Race at 8 a.m. March 17 at Sgt. Joshua W. Soto Physical Fitness Center, located at Bldg. 20751?on Constitution Drive at East Fort Bliss. The St. Patty?s Day 6-Mile Race is open to all, including the El Paso community. Age groups are 19 and younger, 20 to 29, 30 to 39, 40 to 49 and 50 and older. Early registration is now open at both Stout and Soto gyms and online at www.active.com. Early registration is free for active-duty military assigned to Fort Bliss and costs $20 for all other runners. Early registration closes March 14. Combatives team tryouts
Fort Bliss and the 1st Armored Division is currently forming the installation combatives team to compete at the Army championships. All skill and experience levels are welcome to train and try out for the team. Training takes place at the installation combatives facility, Bldg. A493, from 6 to 7:30 a.m. each Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Training times are available for those unable to attend these sessions.
